Wilhelm Backhaus plays Beethoven Concerto No4. Without a doubt the very best peformance of the concerto to date. It shows one of the greatest Beethoven interpreters performing with the Vienna Symphony and Carl Bohm

  • Backhaus had relaxed wrists and musicality

  • L'une des plus grandes, parce que les plus évidentes et simples en apparence, interprétations qu'on puisse voir et écouter de ce concerto. Bouleversant !

  • At 7:10, I view this as some of the most beautiful wind writing. I always wonder what the German musicians think of this place. This seems to be august and pastoral and of a mind that is at pace and with the greatest peaceful shadows, of Summer and of Fall.

  • Backhaus is great, to say nothing about Böhm.

But still, Gulda is GOD. Of course, I adore bothe of

them, and before Gulda appeared, Backhaus was

for me Beethoven interpret no. 1

This recording was made by Unitel in 1967.

  • what year this was?

  • what r u talkn about? the beethoven ones are so common, it's nice to hear different cadenzas

  • the cadenza is his own

  • Yes, interesting; thought it is always troubling not to hear the original cadenza. :)

The cadenza at the 1st movement was actually the original, I think.

  • Beethoven's rebirth Backhaus

  • whose are the cadenzas?
