Wilhelm Backhaus plays Beethoven Concerto No4. Without a doubt the very best peformance of the concerto to date. It shows one of the greatest Beethoven interpreters performing with the Vienna Symphony and Carl Bohm
L'une des plus grandes, parce que les plus évidentes et simples en apparence, interprétations qu'on puisse voir et écouter de ce concerto. Bouleversant !
At 7:10, I view this as some of the most beautiful wind writing. I always wonder what the German musicians think of this place. This seems to be august and pastoral and of a mind that is at pace and with the greatest peaceful shadows, of Summer and of Fall.
Backhaus had relaxed wrists and musicality

Backhaus is great, to say nothing about Böhm.
But still, Gulda is GOD. Of course, I adore bothe of
them, and before Gulda appeared, Backhaus was
for me Beethoven interpret no. 1
This recording was made by Unitel in 1967.

Yes, interesting; thought it is always troubling not to hear the original cadenza. :)
The cadenza at the 1st movement was actually the original, I think.
