    Its a rather controversial theory and one based upon subjective opinion it has to be said. If you look at the logistics and the political considerations of a British occupation or annexation of Louisiana then it doesn't make any sense. Why would the British have returned Lousiana to Spain? Perhaps there are political aspects to this that I'm unaware of but I can't see why Britain would prefer a Spanish Louisiana as opposed to an American one.

    Had the British taken New Orleans and Pakenham had presented the ministers at Ghent with a fait accomplait, the negotiations would have been dramatically different, and British may have been able to keep New Orleans
