On Oct. 18 (2008) I woke up to see my neighbours staring into the tree in my yard. About 60 feet up it was a black bear. Police came and held their shotguns for a while, then said theyn were leaving and conservation couldn't come unless the bear posed some sort of danger. If it starts posing a threat, I was told to call the police back and then they'd be able to do something about it.
About 20 minutes after they left conservation officer Colin showed up, with masters student Ashley, anesthetized the bear and took it away for relocation. Here's the video I got. Unfortunately none was taken of me helping drag the bear out of the yard into the bear trap.
Unfortunately God did not make bears good climbers. I work for the National Park Service and we see this a lot. Most of the time the bears get the wind knocked out of them. I once saw a black bear fall almost 100ft, surprisingly it got up bit later and walked off.
Fantastic animals though, its a real shame to see them get hurt. Fortunately their tough SOBs.
Thanks for posting!!!
