  • i'm gonna sit down in the kitchen and put a good buzz on......and get drunk with pine tree.....rest in peace my friend......you are missed

  • In loving memory of JLW, graduate of Sanford Maine High School. From your friends of that "Old Mill Town" xoxo

  • Yes.....John passed on Sunday Dec. 4th. A great country songwriter from Massachusetts. I had the opportunity on many occasions in the late 80's and early 90's to play in his band. In those days, as a fiddler in his band, I was new to the country scene in Boston and John was always very supportive of my musicianship and made me feel like a friend every time we shared a stage. He was one of a kind, a great talent, a good friend, and he will be missed by all that knew him and enjoyed country music.

  • Reports have John leaving this world today. I hope this is only a rumor.

  • used to go see him in the early 1980's in Maine.Great voice!

  • @flomurdock I played with JLW from around 1980 to 82 . He had such a great band rarin' to go . He liked(s) being a big fish in a smaller pond . A great man though . Great to with with and for . Good times !

  • I had great fun playing with John, in all the MANY different variations of his band - -

'cause it was always different every night, and to me, that was the most important thing

  • One more thing - of all the times I have seen him, I never heard this version of Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye. It is wonderful!!!

  • Ain't that the truth - Meaning the kick in the ass. It's obvious that if he did it right, his band could be the NE equivalent of Asleep at the Wheel. Great stuff, but all he wanted to do was sit at the bar at the Plough & not compete in the music industry. Maddening to everyone who knew his talent! When I worked for John Penny & someone had a gig for Lincoln & needed an answer, & we called him his response was "they know not to call me at the bar." How do you make a career out of that?

  • I saw him do a little ad hoc performance at cantab last night at a bluegrass festival...he looked older than he was but he could still sing.
