My favorite scene in the movie between two fine actors.

In the Hustler film, Eddie runs into a fat man he thinks he can beat, and he probably can, but he was too busy running his game to see that the fat man was better at running a game than Eddie was, right at that moment. Same thing happening in this scene. Eddie learned from the fat man, and beats him later. Eddie learns from this fat man, and uses it as a way to get out of the mentor-protege relationship with Vince which was never going to work.

I think Eddie did deliberately throw the game. The whole "is there and echo in here" and Forest abruptly saying "let's just do it." Plus, even if he didn't deliberately throw te game, he was pissed drunk.

isnt the money wrong? hes says double it three times. When Eddie wins the bet was 80, shouldnt the next bets have been 160, 320, and 640? he only puts down 400 at the end

Eddie deliberately lets himself be taken by the kid.
That's the whole point of the scene. It doesn't play out until further into the movie but he deliberately gets taken and lets Vinnie see it happen.
