You also have to consider the computer, which was not considered in the side by side. With Magic Jack, your computer must run 100% of the time. This draws a LOT more power than the Ooma. Plus if your computer crashes, so does your phone service. Big win for Ooma!

Magic Jack includes voicemail so it's the same as an answering machine. if you don't pay your magic jack bill you can't make calls out but you can still get calls in so I use my magic jack as an answering service and I talk on it when people call me...lol. Magic Jack has call forwarding, sends your voice messages to your email account, it has call forwarding, call waiting and call conferencing and free 911 calls - you can't beat that seems better than Ooma

Calculating average electricity bill difference from not having the computer on all the time, and it takes alot less than 35 years to break even. Just a thought.

I've had a magicjack for 2 years. You're review is good, but after living with MJ, I have to say that it only works half the time. It's not a good replacement for a landline. Whenever I pickup my phone, I'm not sure whether the device will work or not. If it's not working I have to pull out my computer, unplug MJ, and plug it back in again after a moment or so. The software will then reload and it usually will work then. MagicJack is cheap and it works....sometimes.

This review is leaving out some important information. Ooma has QoS built in so you can use your internet line and it won't disrupt the phone service, Magic Jack does not. I haven't used the Ooma so I can't compare the quality, however I have used the Magic Jack and the sound quality is very canned and breaks up randomly even when I'm not using my internet line. I have a very fast computer and internet. MJ is not for a primary phone line, it's a very niche device.
