I would like to build one of these gardens next summer, but I live on a rental property and can't really construct anything that would be permanent. Has anyone ever built one out of wood? I am thinking that I could build walls of scrap lumber from old pallets, but how durable do you think this would be? Maybe I'll just have to do it and find out!

Thought I'd actually talk about THE GARDEN, rather than all the other crap. Its such a lovely idea, makes perfect sense. I've tried a few different gardening methods over the years and now I'm really excited about trying this. My son's primary school has one, they got the idea off the sendacow clip. We're in New Zealand, it can get very wet, hot, cold and dry, so this will be interesting. I love how this method recycles stuff and saves money.Cheers and good luck with your great garden!

Yes, wood works great. Many raised bed gardens use wood. Stone has some unique properties like temperature regulation, but overall it'll get the job done and isn't long term.
