Ragtime pianist Mimi Blais (Montreal, Canada) plays this late Liszt work in a blues feel. Recorded at the 20th International Bohém Ragtime & Jazz Festival in Kecskemét, Hungary, March 26, 2011. Unfortunately the piano was pretty much out of tune (we had it tuned later during the concert) but this rendition was too interesting to leave out from the DVD, anyway.

I remember Mimi saying, "I'm nothing to Jazz really". This seems to have a pretty Jazzy feel. She could be a fantastic Jazz pianist if she chose.
Anyway, this is a haunting version of Liszt's piece. I guess blues didn't really exist in Liszt's time?? I wonder what he'd think of this version. Well, I know what I think of it. It's truly impressive.
The fact that the piano is out of tune actually seems to do this piece justice. It adds to the overall atmosphere and feel Liszt was aiming for!
