HP Quad Edition DV6 laptop.
Intel 2720QM Sandy Bridge Processor 2.2 GHz (3.3 GHz turbo boost)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6570 (1GB GDDR5)
6 GB DDR3 Ram

Took it completely apart to apply some new thermal paste. What they put on there was a mess, spilled out all around the chips. Applied some MX-4. I will have some video comparisons up, but what I do have to say is the temps run about the same, BUT the clock speeds run higher during stress testing. It appears the laptop tries to hit a set temp around 82 degree's regardless of clock speed. So with the new paste it run's slightly faster around 2.7 GHz consistently compared to 2.4-2.5 GHz during the same testing as before. For a quad core laptop with a good graphics card, HP really could have designed a better heatsink for this model. Puny if you ask me. Idles 50-55 C. Really easy laptop to take apart. Had to do it twice, since after the first time I put it completely back together, the computer told me I forgot to hook up the fan. I had to take it COMPLETELY apart again for one connector, got it done in about 20 minutes total that time around, including put back together. This is the third laptop I took apart now, I find a thrill in doing it. Almost like surgery lol. I do have to say I am fairly good at computer repair and working on computers to speed them up. Have a few jobs that hired me on the side to work on computers for them. I love doing it, but I'm not pursuing a degree in it unfortunately. In the medical field actually going to school for radiography. Any questions about this laptop, just leave it in the comments. Thanks for watching

  • just answer one question please! can we upgrade the cpu of this same model laptop dv6-3120se from core i3 to core i5??? please its important... thank you

  • @syeddgtek Yes you could swap it out. Just check on ark.intel.com to make sure its the same chipset, the new CPU you are getting.

  • @danman132x can you teach me how to only clean the fan nor remove it just clean it with some compressed air

  • @hassanenamh8 Best I could say there is to blow it through the vents really good

  • Hi! I have a 3052NR. I wish I had a sandy its the non Sandy vs. But oh well. My question is...do you know if the build is the same? Or is it another different puzzle? Im afraid of cracking it open with out a video like yours to follow encase i get lost

    Thanks

  • @qoto If the outside looks the same, you should be good to go. But if you go to the HP website and search for your model, you should be able to find a teardown guide.

  • Could someone please help ?! I've recently got the dv6-6b90ee with really high spec... up to 8gb of ram 1tb of HDD and 2GB dedicated VGA but it's lagging and acting slow when I'm installing something I asked for a replacement and they gave me one... but it's still doing the same. I'M FRUSTRATED !!!

  • Hi. I also own a dv6 Pavilion, but an older version (2010). I'm currently having problems with its audio jack. I tried using good functioning headphones, but I can only hear the sound from my right speaker. If I try to apply pressure on the cord near the male connector (i.e. bend it down), then the sound will come out fine in both L and R speakers. Can you help me identify the problem with my aud. input? I think it became loose due to perennial use. How do I fix this? Thanks

  • Please answer this question, I've been trying to google this without any answer: Is it possible to upgrade a HP Pavilion Dv6 E serie laptop?

  • Hey, did you notice a significant temperature drop with the new thermal compound? I bought the AS5 but haven't applied yet. My Pavilion is an i7 1.6Ghz and it REALLY burns.

    Thanksss!!

  • great skils!!!

  • Hi, On the HP Website under Support & Drivers there is a Service Manual PDF that u could download and it will give you part numbers and configurations for the motherboards etc.

So basically if u want to change ur configuration you have to choose the motherboard that can fit into ur laptop chasis then choose matching socket processor & heatsink-fan combo.

U then have to check prices of these parts on Ebay and ship them to ur home.

The disassemble has to be done carefully, profes. and diligently.

  • @qoto well, I strongly reccomend you not to do it yourself. I have wasted my Compaq preserio because of this even though It was like the 10th time for me.. It is always a risk..

  • Hi, I have this exact same model. When i reassemble, the motherboard shut down as soon as i connect the finger print reader cable.

I wanted to know if this could be a problem with the cable being bent or something like that..?.

Secondly there is a new set of DV6 with beats Audio and i am searching for videos about how to change the Keyboard as my my new dv6 2011 model had some bad keys.

Can you please guide regarding how to pull out the keyboard on the New DV6 with Beats Audio?.
