Apparently, 12-year-olds cannot understand satire....

If you haven't seen this film, why are you commenting? They are making fun of conformist idiots (and "reality TV")

@StuG1945 Reagan was already quite well-known, both as an actor and as former governor of California. He was pretty much the conservative "star" of that moment in time.

@monkeysoulpoet I find it hard to believe it's directed toward "Reagen America" since the film came out in 1981 and was probably filmed before that, and Reagen started his presidency in 1981. I believe it's directed more toward the 1950s. The 50's were the era of McCarthyism and the presidency of Eisenhower "Ike". A more fitting era than 1981, for this mode of thinking that the dad is singing. He also puts on a World War Two/Post war helmet that was common of that era.

I quoted this song in a paper I wrote last year...It was my favourite part of the paper.

Okay... how could ANYONE take this as O'Brien's literal opinion? It's a parody of the psychotically homophobic attitudes that were prevalent in 1980s Reagan America. People really believed this sh*t back then, and not just extreme conservatives. O'Brien is SATIRIZING that.
