This historic hairstyle can be tricky! There are a few ways to do this style, and this is just one of them. ( I have not tried the other ways, but this may be the hardest.) It looks simple, and it is once you have had enough practice. The front half is almost perfect and the back has a few bits I am not happy with. Once I have this style looking perfect I will post another video about it.

  • Which song did you use for this? I play piano and would love to learn it.

  • @TheKatIsBackAgain

It's Moonlight Sonata being played by a Cave Organ in the Luray Caverns.

  • looking at vintage photos of the backs of real peoples heads, you did the back pretty well. you have done pretty well, the back has more of a pouf at the bottom than photos i saw. these were from hawaii territory in late 1800s and the front was a lot like you did, but back was more or less a twist or bun, not as elaborate. you did a good job, i get the idea how at least.

i was cringing to see you comb your pretty hair dry though! combs are for wet hair, use a brush if your hair is dry!!!!

  • @jesusfreak0818 Combing your hair while its wet is not a good idea. Hair is more fragile when wet and breakage happens easier, same with brushes in general. Therefore, I use a comb and only use a BB Brush when applying oil to my hair.

  • I love it! I'll take this hairstyle over the flat ironed, pin-straight, zero body, jaggedy-layered modern hair styles any day! :p

  • Oh, you shrugging at the end... looks so cute. :) Anyway, I think it turned out very well. :)

  • Ohhh!!! Love this-- I am going to try this, but with one alteration: back-combing the roots on the underside of the front bit. Though I normally pin-curl my hair so I wonder if that wouldn't add more pouf to the "do". Thank you for demonstrating this!!!

You have lovely hair-- I wish mine was that thick!

  • @portlandbells99 My grandmother had hair almost to her waist, and wore a simplified version of this. She said her mother simply cleaned her hairbrush every couple of weeks, and rolled the hairs from the brush into a bratwurst shape. My grandmother did the same thing at some point.

It is possible to buy a tubular foam roll at beauty supply stores. They are about 1 1/2" in diameter, and can be cut easily if they're too long. Not as good as the real hair ones, but they'll do the trick.

  • I love your eyes :)

  • Thanks for sharing :) Women also in that era used hair saved from their hairbrush and such to help with the different styles.

  • that's very pretty!

  • Your hair is so beautiful and the hairstyle looks really pretty on you :)

  • Great tutorial! You have beautiful hair!

  • @portlandbells99 sorry for really poor description. actually you hold your hair down over your face, place the hair rat on the top of your front of your head and then roll the hair back over it and continue with the combing etc.. please dont be critical, you have done great!!!

  • your hair is lovely,
