During WW2 The Canadians used the South Downs for training with live ammo. The Churchill Tank in the Video broke down and was used for target practice, and has remained here ever since. This was the Calgary Tank Regiment that went on the ill fated Deippe Raid Aug 1942.
My father was a Canadian Serviceman at the time, that I never met.
My visit on the 12th was to place a poppy etc in remembrance for him and other Canadians.
Just by chance our artist friend Paul Cutts decided to paint the tank for a future exibition.
