Military training has taken the place of normal schools in the western Libyan port city of Benghazi. All local schools are closed, and are instead being used as boot camps to train new young recruits, to fight Gaddaffi's forces.
Instead of sitting in classrooms, teenagers are receiving short, basic training before joining the largely undisciplined rebel ranks.
Some 10 instructors are trying to get some 100 young men to learn a basic knowledge of warfare, with only a few pieces of out-dated weaponry in the playground.
What is available for the civilians, mostly in their teens and 20s, are primary routines three hours a day for three weeks before they are deployed to the battlefield.
Yunis said, "I like football. I like school, too. But I have something more important to do at the moment. I want freedom in Libya, and I want to back my companions in Misrata. I want other cities in the country liberated. I hope for freedom in the entire country."
Like Yunis, most trainees had never touched weapons before. Now they have to start from scratch, including dismantling and assembling, taking aim and firing arms as AK-47 automatic assault rifles. They are also required to be able to handle heavy arms like anti-aircraft artillery.
I thought they were unarmed protesters.

Nobody under 18 is allowed to join the Libyan rebels. Only adults can fight.

@AequitasAdrianth i dont think the rebels see gaddafi as a brother, probably closer to an oppressive monster who wants to murder them...

@tanksta0wns He would slaughter them anyways given 1/2 a chance.

Might as well.Gaddafi is going to murder them anyway so give them a chance to defend themselves.

Thanks for this upload, this is a very significant development in the rebel approach, bombs not books... the young men that are posturing for the camera look older than high school age.

War is a terrible thing, is always the same result: brothers killing brothers.
