my point it that true martial artists, who practice humbly, would not spend time making negative remarks about some kid's performance, judging whether or not the performance --out of context-- is any indication of whether or not the kid has any true martial arts skills. Positive Encouragement, folks! I hate when I post a vid of my kids performing and adults want to bully them on the internet with negative remarks. How juvenile!!
@allenentertain - I practice Full Contact Knockdown Karate. This Guy showed Good Gymnastics. Original martial arts, especially Okinawan Arts, no kicks above the waist were practiced! I have no quarms with the skills but we have to differenciate between display stuff and truly effective "Martial Arts"
I promise to GOd there is this kate team i see at tournaments that enter the creative katas division and they all use this kata. lol i cant believe i thogught they invented it when they stole it from you.
so within the context of my other post, i wanted to say "Great Job" on your 1st place performance! What the disrespectful posters don't realize is that just because you have to include creative moves to meet the expectations of judges and audience in these types of tournaments to win 1st place, doesn't mean that you aren't able to also perform a stong traditional kata or use your martial arts in a practical way. They probably wish they could do some of those moves in your peformance!
I dislike the closed-mindedness of those who can't appreciate all aspects of martial arts. True martial artists show humility and aren't negative. Realize that there are different types of tournaments & different expectations & different performances & outcomes based on subjective& objective criteria, interpretation & judging. Some are very traditional but others are loosely based on traditional & are very creative & based on a lot of gymnastic type moves, a lot of flair & showmanship.
I am on the borderline of agreeing here. It's more like dancing. It reminds me of the "martial arts" competitions that I've seen on ESPN. They look like they're throwing kicks and punches, but it more looks like a synchronized, choreographed dance than an actual fight. Pretty to watch, entertaining, but not practical.
umm...all the fancy jump kicks are not taught in Vallari school. And this form the guy is doing is a copy of some other people form. You can check it out when you search martial tricks. Most of the freehand form will look like that...some are the same. He did not create nothing.

It looks like he has done a little bit of wushu. He is good, but he is only of average skill for a wushu black belt.

I have a black belt in SKK, and I have never seen creative kata used at Villari Kempo studio. Maybe they have it in a Vermont Studio
