It doesn't matter if Massa had the line. There is a responsibility between both drivers that there is no contact. Yes, Hamilton could have avoided the collision by backing out of it, but he was in a position that compromised Massa's entry.  It doesn't matter if Massa was on the line, Hamilton was there and he turned in on him.

A penalty to Massa was harsh although Hamilton broke his front wing so maybe penalty was given to even out the situation lol

Also critical of the decision is another former F1 driver and German television RTL pundit Christian Danner.
