Keynote: Gil Penalosa, Executive Director, 8-80 cities
Gil Penalosa is on a mission to improve the quality of life for young and old. He has been keynote speaker and provided consultation throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He holds an MBA from UCLA's Anderson School of Management, where he recently was honoured as one of the "Most Inspirational Alumni" in the school's history.
As former Commissioner of Parks, Sport and Recreation for the City of Bogotá, Colombia, Gil successfully led the design and development of over 200 parks and the "new Ciclovia"—car-free Sundays— today an internationally recognized program which sees over 1.3 million people walk, run, skate and bike along 121 kilometres of Bogotá's city roads.
Gil also works as Senior Consultant for the Danish firm Gehl Architects, which among recent projects redesigned Times Square in New York City to include bike lanes, and serves on the Boards of Directors of Ciclovias of the Americas, and City Parks Alliance, USA. He lives in Toronto.
