@Farnik01 -- As a left-handed violist myself, I most certainly did! :-)
-
Did anyone else notice the violist at 1:12 who had left-handed viola?

It is amazing to watch this man as he strives to actualize the potential which these extremely talented (but intimidating!) musicians have within them to reveal to us the genius that was Strauss.

That man's facial expression (Kleiber) defies description. You can see exuding from that body the intensity of the musicality within him. This rehersal (now 40 years old) is awesome.
I have been captivated by the sustained video shots of the left hand viola player and play this vid over and over to see. Amazing 40 years ago one would be that forward thinking to have hired this gentleman. I wish I knew his name and his eventual outcome.

Sorry my translation is a bit out of order. I gave my best but Youtube obviously did not react like it should.

5:55 to the violins: not that honest, should be more sensitive and double-tongued, attack much softer, like before you touch the skin you touch the hairs, same thing with your strings in this part
7:30 the staccato is too clumsy - like if you had too many pounds of weight - you got to describe a very posh man - or who thinks he is posh - now without interruption
-
4:15 it´s cold here - so that´s why the trombones don´t have that virgin sound like on the last rehearsal in general: this part has to sound dangerous - everything could happen - and it probably will- the bell dos not sound like a bell - maybe it will be better more distanced - after he carries it away: and you will play by ear then?
O.k. folks - here we go:
0:32 welcome everybody etc.
1:25 brass sectn. - not that heavy, much lighter 1st oboe - please talk with your lines like `I´m so unlucky´
2:15 I want it slower - calmer - - - and now the oboe is the conductor

9:05 to violins: you have to play so dominant that you won´t need a conductor anymore - that´s my dream and we could achieve it as there´s enough rehearsal time - you must play without any brakes, very fluently and charming - maybe describing a beautiful woman with long legs walking around, who arrogantly looks down at you - what makes her even more attractive for you.
