Chiktan has been remained seat of a rich cultural ethos. They are rich in folk dances, folk lore and folk songs. This is very much evident from the fact that the people still communicate messages through folk songs.
The people are sharp in memory and are renowned epic tellers of Ling Gyalam Gesar and the Api-tso. The epic tellers of Chiktan are still in existence and are invited to the other villages of Kargil to tell the folk lore and folk songs.
Ti-Sug Ganga Sug were the early dwellers of Chiktan. Their off-shoots were subjugated by Tha-Tha Khan and established his kingdom at Chiktan. The castle of Chiktan was unique in the area and was known as Chiktan Razi Khar. It was constructed by the renowned architect of Baltistan, Shingkhan Tsandan. The building was so elegant that the king of Chiktan planned to cut off both the hands of the architect with a view that no such castle exist any where else. But the king was failed with the high sense of alacrity exhibited by the wife of the architect.
Chiktan Shagaran had been remained another eye-catching place of Chiktan due to horse polo. In ancient period polo players of far-off kingdoms would come to Chiktan to compete. Many songs have composed about the beauty of the polo field and sung.
For getting the inner line permit to Chiktan, you have to give an application mentioning ,how long you have to stay,with a Photo copy of your Passport and visa at the District Magistrate office Kargil. And you will be issued the permit on the spot.

The Major Point of Issue in Chiktan
1. Mostly people leaving average life (not contended & not very poor )
2. In winter season people have to face very challenging life because of very cool weather,most probably below 25℃
3. People use olden method of heating system like burning cow dung,wood, charcoal in their houses.they cannot manage for the modern method of heating system because of economically unsound.
3. Electricity available only during night for 4 hours out of 24 hrs.
4.Students are educationally as well as technologically backward due to lack of facilities like (public library,internet facilities,electricity etc.)
5. No good facilities of entertainment for children (No playground,due to nonavailability of electricity no other electrical mode of entertainment is possible)
6.Wide scope in tourism field for the educated unemployed youths (tourist guide ,providing home stay in their houses for the tourists).But unfortunately very few tourists come to visit the area due to lack of awareness about the area's vast culture and tradition(known as Purick culture).
The Purick culture came from Baltistan which has a very vast culture and the whole Ladakh history is based on this culture.
The Chiktan Razi Palace has a very vast story of its architecture ,its architect ,rise and fall of many kings in their kingship.
Shingkhan Chandan (architect Chandan)was the architect of Razi Palace.There is some very interesting story of his architecture of the Palace,his conflict with the then ruling King and his own family.
The then King of Razi palace cutted the right Hand of Chandan after the completion of the Palace in the intuition, that he couldn't build other Palace same as the Razi Palace.
The Razi palace is one year older then the Leh Palace and the architect of leh Palace was also Chandan. Chandan builded Leh Palace with his left hand.

A very cultural rich and unique historical narrow valley with a loudly sounding small river flowing through the mid valley.
Chiktan is a purik word lateral meaning chick means unity or oneness and tan means the individual or body . This words indicate that the people of this area were unity in their word and their decision. At the mid of the long narrow valley there lived to be the great ruler of the area called as Cho. One of the Cho named as Stering Malic built a very wonderful place now called as Razi Khar with the help of a renowned builder named as shingkhan chandon. This place I can be shortly described as the wonderful building located at a peak of a rock curved a tunnel within the rock to get an underground contact between the place and below foot hill spring water in order to overcome the safety of drastic climatic condition and in case of an attack to the kingdom.
Description about the culture is that the people take importance in Local festival rituals and ceremonies Horse polo was one of the famous game of that period played in honor of the Cho Both man and women participate in all dance and activities.
