I don't know, from what I read on the internet, he was arrested in the US for matching the appearance of someone who attempted robbery. I would be mad too, being accused for something you didn't do, and get beat up over it. His rematch was illegal according to the US, so he became a wanted man for playing chess. Yes, the US treated him like shit, I'd hate the US back. Oh and his anti-semitic statements are a result of his anger. Bobby isn't evil, the countries he represented are malevolent.

Just amazes me how he had the opportunity to take "free material" yet Byrne was smart enough to know the consequences, and Fisher was smart enough to set that up.

well something I see is if byrne's bishop takes fischer's bishop, then black can take the rook on d4 with the knight. then if white takes queen with bishop, pawn takes that bishop, now the a8 rook is attacking the queen while the e8 rook is attacking the bishop on e6. so the queen moves, now Re8xBe6 and even though fischer is down a queen, he's still up 1pt in material and the rook on a8 is attacking that pawn. might be better moves than what i said. but maybe the plan was to have more pieces

Im no chess genius but @16:22 where Fischer is basically giving his queen away and moving his white bishop from g4 to e6 - all Byrne needed to do was capture that bishop with his own white bishop on c4 - move it to e6 taking Fischer's recently moved bishop - by doing that not only would Byrne have taken a piece but Fischer's queen would still be in the very position it was the turn before - the queen then wouldve been moved c7 or d8 to save it - byrne then moves his bishop back to safety -
