@monk3yboy69 I see that "puerile comic for people who should know better" VIZ has started making jokes about pushy, aggressive, Audi drivers forever on your tail. I think the brand is unfortunately getting led by "get out of my way" snobbery - what the Germans call "overtaking prestige" - and that the undoubted underlying quality is being spoilt by bling and driver aggression.
The only time a driver tried to run me off the road it was in an Audi. :-(
@evilrobottolhurst I would say that the person who chooses to drive Audi today is still in a different class to a Merc or BMW driver. I would say they are still discerning drivers. They appreciate quality and understatedness over sporty and flash (BMW) or classy with a hint of old fashioned snobbery (Merc).
@monk3yboy69 In the mid-90s, Audi still counted as a quality brand that didn't have to show off too much (let alone actually being Hungarian like the TT). The stereotypical yuppy was the exact opposite of the discerning Audi driver.
@lucasorcorey This was Audi moving upscale. They had set their sights firmly on the new executive market that had sprung up around the time of Thatcher. The C3 was sleek, modern and aerodynamic. By the late 80s Audi was definitely becoming an alternate choice for many BMW buyers. Move forward to 1996, and Audi is certainly a premium brand. And now.....absolutely amazing vehicles. Bmw, Merc or Audi....mmm?
Class advert. The satirical show "Spitting Image" did a spoof showing a tank - "The Hitlers are going on holiday to Poland" - with the slogan "Deutschland über Alles, as we like to think in Germany" Ho ho! The understatedness has now, sadly, been replaced with the image of being the car for the brashest and most aggressive driver - the bond trader who would once have lacked the taste to buy one is now the typical Audi driver. :-( v=rSicNiIERAE
@skrompir many of which are built in europe now lol. i liked the old audis. had several newer ones. including a 90, , and a tt. but i had one of these 5 cylinder ones too. power of a 6, with qa fuel economy of a 4. , did a hell of alot better than my 79 ford van lol
Smug but cool. When it comes to branding Volkswagen Group are in for the long haul.

Do you feel AUDI is no longer a quality brand?

@weedywet Unfortunately not. Spitting Image guard their IP jealously.
