@cleo0399 Yup - that's Cowboy 129!!! He is pretty random with his shooting some days - I think it is mostly for show - I think he likes to show me his big gun! Certainly doesn't make things any safer, that's for sure!!!

Please, the liberals of massachusetts would never allow someone to indiscriminately kill defenseless animals. this is for safety reasons only.

I would be disturbed to find out if he is really indiscriminately killing. You have a better view and may want to contact Massport with your concerns. If you learn of any other airports that have discovered other ways of "discouraging" birds from being there, please share. Bird strikes are any airports major concern. Unfortunately, it may be a necessary evil but that doesn´t mean the people hired to do it are free to do what they want.

I¨m cracking up! Very funny. I do hate that the birds have to be killed but there´s no other way. If you put other predators the next thing you know there will be other accidents and plenty of slippery runway kill.

Wow - thank you for your comments! I had heard from my neighbor about the swan which is such a sad story. I have seen the mate swimming by alone. The neighborhood still talks about it. I had no idea that it was Cowboy 129 who had killed it. But he will shoot at anything. I have seen him do all kinds of crazy things just like you describe. The neighbors have some pretty wild stories of his antics.I saw him relieve himself right in the middle of the runway! I think he was spelling his name.

The video is very cleverly put together - but disturbing. Why is this airport employee shooting birds? I understand they pose a threat to aircraft but how effective is killing selected individuals? Aren't there non-leathal measures that can be taken? And what kind of bird did he kill? That thing is huge! Looks like a heron or preditor bird (osprey?). What are the regulations?
