The Flames home opener vs. the Red Wings. Contains interviews of Derek morris, Brendon Shanahan.
This is a tale of two teams. The Red Wings were just beginning it's dominance of the NHL, while the Flames were just beginning it's slow, painfull rebuilding after the Doug Risebourough/Pierre Page Disintegration of the team.
@byronkentgraham I said the TEAM didn't develop very well. Iginla was the only one who panned out to what he was projected to be. Stillman needed to go to good teams to score 70-80 pts., he was always a complimentary offensive guy. Morris was being touted as a future Norris contender. His hype was almost as much as Phaneuf's but more hope was hung on him because of the desperate state of the Flames at the time. Coates era drafting was awful (Fata, Tkaczuk, Saprykin, Krahn with top 10 picks!?).

Flames pushed that young guns thing but didn't really develop well. Morris, Iginla and Cory Stillman were about the only guys who panned out. It took a different Sutter to turn it around but it took so damn long to get there. Morris was supposed to be the future Norris trophy d-man as I recall. Turns out trading Fleury got them their real stalwart for the future in Regehr.

Back in the day.....I used to watch the Flames all the time on Channel 7. We need to get back some games on Global Calgary.
