The opening of Space Runaway Ideon (1980). Directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino (Mobile Suit Gundam, Xabungle, Aura Battler Dunbine, Heavy-Metal L-Gaim).

Ideon is one of the lesser known anime series that premiered while anime was still fresh. It features a tragic plot in which every character is horrifically killed. It's quality rivals that of the mobile suit gundam series. There are 39 episodes, plus a movie that briefly goes through the episodes, and a concluding movie that may have the most shown deaths in anime history.

  • @ibuki05 As a Mazinger and Getter fanboy it pains me a little to admit it, but Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter could only hope to scratch Ideon, right before being vaporized along the complete Solar System by a shot of the Ideon Gun.

  • I can just imagine someone with no prior knowledge of Ideon watching this for the first time. "Oh boy! What an upbeat opening, this is gonna be fun!" (Skip ahead to the ending) "............................." (Shoots himself)

  • Ideon = the greatest and failed creative work in anime history

  • @andoc Shin Getter would just devour the Ideon Gun's energy.

  • @MoonlightButterfly92 Tomino likes to do that, Victory Gundam, upbeat theme but when you look at the series its kill 'em all

  • The ending.. Why?! D: The OP makes it look like such an innocent super robot series... Oh well, it was a great series! XD

  • Hey, I wouldn't be too happy if every known army in the universe was attempting to kill and capture me.

  • @andoc have in mind... ideon is a real robot D:

  • behold... the god of guncannons

  • the kid with the red hair looks exactly like Amuro Ray from MSG. Not surprising, since this was made by the same guy.

  • amuro ray lol

  • @andoc Basically he could grow so big he could nom nom nom on multiple multiverses.
