  • Bikes rule. Enough said. Awesome video.

You could couple this with solar panels, and charge it at home. It would be solar powered.

    Peace.

  • yes, you could run it from solar panel but not a bike.

the solar panel require area of surface, if you want to charge while running, you will need a wide flat surface just like most of solar racing car. And solar panel had only 20% efficiency, so it will take a more solar panel to charge the battery.

  • Be sure to keep a copy of this video for your lawyers. I think it is a mistake to instruct customers to drill a hole through their brake lever (near the pivot). Obviously this will weaken the lever and it will snap most likely when you need your brakes the most urgently.

Rethink this part, BionX. Maybe include a specially beefed up lever.

  • how i can get a cheap battery and a charger? mine get stolen

  • mad props for trying to build your own rig. i had planned on it , and still might. But some ready made kits are hard to resist . I commuted 40 miles yesterday with the well designed bionx. Hub motor and battery mechanics are simple enough . I believe the pluses come from the computer and controller. Of course the price come from the battery=D

  • Nope, best thing I had was a current guzzling starter motor powered pram wheel wooden go-kart, resistance was stiff as hell. Oh yes and an old scrap e-scooter which I broke the controller by wiring the battery the wrong way round!!

  • Never tried that. I assume that in 'bike only' mode the regen is off for Bionx. My M2 stumpjumper is very similar to your ride, I had to get a bigger chainring so I could pedal faster. I was maxing out my cadence with the stock chainring size. Now 20mph is easier without or with Motor. I'm sure Bionx has legal obligation to include the limiter ,but I'm glad it was easy to hack. Do you have a Bionx 350?

  • Actually the easy way to find out if I'm right or not is to put the controller in bicycle mode, then pedal up to 20mph, then 21 or so and If it's much harder, then the braking IS kicking in

  • I've heard on some forums that there is no regen switch on - just a sudden loss of electric power meaning you're suddenly on your own pedalling with no electric power. I don't know whether I'm fitter than you or have a better bike (Giant Yukon with 80psi rear and 50psi front slicks), but I don't find it that hard to pedal 20mph so you could be right. 30mph is the biggy for me!

  • i turned off my limiter the 2nd day I had it. But If I recall correctly ,Yes it does. It sucks because I can easily hit that wall on a good straight away. Hacking the Limiter is a Must.
