This is a video I shot diving in abu dabab, not far from Marsa Alam. I had a base at Marsa Nakari Eco lodge. This sandy bottom has sea grass which attracts turtles, several of them are feeding here. You can also see the remoras on the back.

I'm a little bit worried about the amount of divers and snorklers at this site. We saw a snorkler breaking off corals, tried to warn him but he didn't pay attention. Hopefully the place won't get too crowded and scare away people, but there is a hotel located on the beach so it will continue. The turtles didn't seem to mind the divers, but some got interrupted in the meal and moved away if they got surrounded. There are reefs on each side of the marsa(natural bay), we went diving on the south one and it was good, even saw a stone fish.

When I was shooting this I was paying more attention to looking at it rather than through the screen on the camera. The video was shot with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 with underwater housing.

  • ummm, I wasn't really worried about people being scared away, I actually ment I was worried that the turtles might be scared away from the site because of the crowds. But if people keep a respectful distance to the turtles it might work.
