A raw chicken (100%, Aldi) is treated with fluorine (99.9%) to show the great reactivity and the enormous oxidizing power of elemental fluorine.
The video was recorded for the safety briefing for the work with fluorine.

  • Woher habt ihr denn den Fluor?

  • @martiniostramoga

Man kann es leicht durch Elektrolyse selbst herstellen oder man kauft es. Als dritte Alternative: chemische Synthese von Fluor nack K.O. Christe et al.

  • Lol... he made Chicken hexafluoride!

  • Hmmm... nothing better than some homemade chicken à la fluorine (and some nice, cold calcium chloride solution to wash it down). The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast ;)

  • nice vid..

  • @Jeenyus26

    What do you mean?

  • @Jeenyus26

At ambient conditions there is no reaction of F2 with Kr. Also, if the pressure is rised to several hundred bar there is no reaction.

    The best methods of KrF2 synthesis are described by Zemva and coworkers in Inorganic Synthesis. [1] J. Slivnik, A. Smalc, K. Lutar, B. Zemva, B. Frlec, J. Fluorine Chem. 1975, 5, 273-274. [2] A. Smalc, K. Lutar, B. Zemva, S. A. Kinkead, Inorg. Synth. 1992, 29, 11-15.

As KrF2 is an endothermic compound, its synthesis is best carried out at low temp.

  • @Morrigan1487 I work in an industrial gas plant that fills 5.0 Kr directly with F2 everyday into gas cylinders. There is no reaction.

  • @Fluorineisgreat You are incorrect. Please look up the MSDS for Fluorine then get back to me.

  • @Jeenyus26 It actually reacts with Kr. The most oxydizing ion discovered until now is KrF+. Because when the bond is broken Kr stays neutral and fluorine looses it's first electron, imagine the oxydation power of that :)

  • @Fluorineisgreat aber ihr müsst ihn doch gekauft haben, oder?
