FPV - Flying over gorgeous Brazilian coast!

Collection of my favorites flights in 2009-2010 over Northeastern (Ceará) and Southeastern (Rio de Janeiro) gorgeous coast of Brazil.

These images were shot by a micro hi-def camera onboard a radio controlled airplane with live transmission to video goggles, so I can pilot through the cockpit view. This modality is called "Remote Video Piloting" (or FPV - First Person View - within the RC community).

Various planes and cameras used, but mainly the Skywalker/Easyglider Pro and GoPro/Aiptek HD1/Jazz178.

Music is "Flying in a blue dream" from Joe Satriani.

Would you like to get into this wonderful hobby?

Start by learning to fly RC planes, then you add the camera and video goggle.

If you don´t have building experience, I strongly recommend a quality RTF kit (ready to fly) of an electric foam pusher plane (simple, cheap, unharmful). The classic (and still great) choice is the EasyStar RTF, but I currently find the Revolectrix Funjet with built in flight stabilization and 2.4Ghz radio an even better choice. It sells for under US$300 online.

Once you complete 10 consecutive flights with NO incident (this might take a while, take your time and have fun), you might be ready to start FPV. I suggest the FatShark Goggle aviator kit with 5.8Ghz integrated video receiver and a CCD killer camera. This combo sells for a little over US$ 400. Fly with a buddy able to take over visually when (not if) you get into trouble.

If you are an advanced RC flyer/builder that would like to get into FPV, I suggest the Skywalker kit with a GoPro HD camera, which is what I used here for the most part. Don´t omit the buddy support until you complete a few successful flights - FPV is a totally new game.

WOW,I Loved this Video! I do have a question though because im a new guy at RC flying. I would like to know how you would fly long range distances like a few kilometers. Is it the type of remote control you get or do you have to buy special Hardware? Thanks- Gabe L. From Florida

@gabeloce1, range is a very tricky question. Short answer is that a good'old Futaba PCM on 72Mhz can take you 5km away and back safely if used on a clean setup and environment (without interferences). The problem is finding a clean setup and environment...

Fala amigo, td bem? Vivo nos EUA e vou comprar um sistema de FPV. Na sua opiniao, compro um sistema completo com a micro camera ou melhor usar uma GoPro? Note que nao tenho nada ainda.

Vi tambem a descricao do que vc carregava onboard. Continuo com as dicas do sistema que vc usou ou existe alguma coisa nova no mercado que vc acha interessante? Lembrando claro, que como sera meu primeiro FPV, num quero gastar muito de uma paulada so'.

Best FPV video but I have a question. How can you turn the camera on the plane during flight? Do you have another transmitter or it is assigned to a roller on the default transmitter?
