More of the Kirk & Spock poetry swap. (Pretty soon you could teach high school English using my vids!) I made this one because with the new movie opening soon, it seems behoovy to remember that love survives time, alterations, and even near doom--and what better reminder than Shakespeare's Sonnet 116?
(It was only after I uploaded this that someone told me April 23 is Shakespeare's birthday.)

The music is Bach's Suite for Cello No. 1 in G Major: Prelude. As always, a huge thanks to Trekcore.com for the screencaps.

Sonnet CXVI /
Let me not to the marriage of true minds /
Admit impediments. Love is not love /
Which alters when it alteration finds, /
Or bends with the remover to remove: /
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark, /
That looks on tempests and is never shaken; /
It is the star to every wandering bark, /
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken. /
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks /
Within his bending sickle's compass come; /
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, /
But bears it out even to the edge of doom. /
If this be error, and upon me proved, /
I never writ, nor no man ever loved. /

--William Shakespeare

I think it fits perfectly too.

  • Exactly!

That's why the third movie is called "the Search for the Enterprise"---oh wait....

You mean the 2009 movie, right, not the 1979 ST: TMP? (A lot of people don't like that first movie, but it's one of my favorites.)

I think some of us are so in love with the original series (and in my case, with Shatner's Kirk), the new boys just don't punch our clock. But I sure see a lot of energy from the new movie from fans at places like Live Journals's ontd_startrek

I hold to Star Trek ethos: there's room for all, and there's no such thing as too much love.

  • That last look on Kirk's face, heehee! Shatner is a fine actor, no matter what anyone says.

  • Aww WHAT?!?! That was what went through Spock's mind at the me and my ship bit. Poor Spock ;_;

  • Well, my dad (old school Trekkie) loves the new film and hates TMP, so I had to beg to get to watch TMP.

And, of course, there's never too much love.

  • Ahhh, true true.

It's just that most of the fandom flinches when they hear the words "The Motion Picture."

How could it be wrong to love anything Star Trek? I even love "Spock's Brain"! : )

  • McCoy gets in on the leg-crossing too, in TMP. I noticed when I was rewatching the second half of the movie for like the fiftieth time.

Is it a bad thing that I love TMP so much?
