Introduction to Halsey Burgund's sound art installation, ROUND.
ROUND combines elements of a traditional museum audio tour with elements of a participatory blog, and does all of this in the context of an ever-evolving and individualized piece of music. It enables museum visitors to select the types of audio commentary they would like to hear (curators, artists, educators, other museum visitors) as well as to add their own comments to the mix which are incorporated instantly into the piece for all to consider. The spoken voices which a participant chooses to hear are combined with evolving instrumental music, creating an individualized audio experience for visitors as they walk around the galleries looking at the art. ROUND creates an audio version of the blog feedback loop, and in so doing, democratizes opinions on art. Much like King Arthurs Round Table (from which the name is derived), all opinions are given equal opportunity to be heard.
