This is "Saving Grace" aka "Gracie" - she was rescued from the New Holland Auction Kill pen on 7-12-10, via "www.ac4h.com". She is a Standardbred mare, age 5, formerly used as an Amish buggy horse and a trotting racing horse. The white spots are just medicine on "boo boos" still healing, and she has just been totally brushed - she has gained a little over 200 lbs in the time since she was saved from being sent to slaughter - less than a month. She is so sweet, kind, loving and trusting, and FUNNY! We make progress every day - she is extremely willing and very smart. I certainly did not need another horse - we can barely afford the ones we have, but if I had not scraped together the last $500 I had to save her at the last minute, she would have been sent to slaughter AT 5 YEARS OLD and tortured and butchered alive to be steak for diners in Japan and Europe.
I couldn't really afford it, but she is worth her weight in gold for how much happiness she has given me, just to see the fear go out of her eyes, and hear her soft nicker when she sees me - and watch with delight at each new delicious treat she gets to experience for the first time (so far, grapes and Animal Crackers are nectar to the Gods).
She has shown me so much love and appreciation - she knows! Please consider saving a horse like this - most of the horses that are shipped to slaughter are beautiful, well-trained, well-behaved - and CHEAP (sadly, most of them are sold at a "price per pound")! And many are registered with papers for this price!
No horse deserves to be slaughtered. It is NOT a humane death - it is merciless, cruel, painful and terrifying (and unnecessary).
Contact www.ac4h.com/broker OR Camelot Rescue in NJ (or check your local area for auctions/kill pens.
You just can't go wrong - the rewards are so overwhelming. Everytime I look at her, I know I SAVED A LIFE - she's my "SAVING GRACE."

  • Well a year has elapsed since this video - I'll have to make another one of her - she is sleek and happy and as sweet and healthy as can be. I just rescued a TB -8 yo gelding who raced - he is literally a skeleton. But, he has gained 30 lbs in 2 weeks, had his shots, teeth fixed (2 hours!), feet trimmed and I'm working on curing a terrible case of rainrot that covers his entire back & flanks. He's a sweetie tho, and learning to love being loved! I'm very blessed to have him.

  • And poor thing she was so young to be sold to slaughter. Now she will live her life with you. You and her have a very strong bond.

  • She is so lucky to have a second chance. She is one pretty mare also. She has been strong through all her hard times in the auction pen and now she is the LOVING FAMILY. And she knows that nothing bad will happen to her. She is very strong to be living till she found her home and that is with you. Congrats to your new mare. She is a beauty

  • You are an angel for giving this girl a chance. :)

  • I am the proud owner of a former racing standardbred who was rescued from slaughter here in Ontario. He is wonderful and sweet and healthy - nothing wrong with him. I LOVE HIM!!!!

  • Hey, congrats on saving her, she looks like an absolute doll! What a cutie!! I have rescued 2 TBs through AC4H. You can see them in my latest video, "You Saved My L I F E..."
