Compound explosive event at Santiaguito volcano, Guatemala 2009. Event begins with several minutes of gas jetting punctuated by a beautifully incandescent, bomb-rich explosion. Video taken in January 2009 during a seismic and acoustic experiment at the volcano conducted by Michigan Tech, New Mexico Tech and University of North Carolina. Partial funding was provided by the National Geographic Society.
Wonderful!
I was there one year ago; so difficult to take photos and videos of volcanoes by night. We saw a wonderful explosion by night, light everywhere... but no photo...
Congratulations!

The audible part of this video is incredible... Jeff showed this for a seminar a little while back at NMT. I think it stunned everyone in the room.
