How do quacks peddle ineffective and sometimes dangerous practices as genuine medicine? What is the harm of such non-scientific practices? How to tell evidence based scientific medicine from pseudo-scientific quackery? What constitutes a genuine system of medicine?

Professor Narendra Nayak explains this and more in this hour long talk, followed by an informative and entertaining interaction session with the audience.

This was taped at ThinkFest 2011, an event organised by Chennai Freethinkers, the regional group of Nirmukta, to promote Scientific temper and critical thinking.

    no evidence is provided.

  • and to keep the digestive system working, we can just have a roughage based diet like cucumber/tomato salad. i am mentioning this because excess of fat makes a person fat, excess/deficiency of certain minerals/vitamins also give rise to different diseases. so by this method many of the diseases can be avoided.

  • hey, i have an idea. instead of eating food which will always create an imbalance in us WRT the amount of proteins, fats, carbs, etc we will end up consuming, why don't we make pills or inject into the bloodstream the exact amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, dietary minerals, vitamins to the amount set by the RDA/RDI(recommended daily intake/allowance) and the individual BMI of the person.
