Boogaloo Sam is a OG! please , respect him! He is a creator of boogaloo style. What is a problem?

Problem is when he talks true things? like that he create poppin boogaloo style and some peeps wanna be famous now, coz he is?

I'm 51 & the 1st time I saw, poppin, robottin, ticking, vibrating, puppetting, Was in Oakland. I went to E Morris Cox elementary school 1966-1969. Many of the moves created back then came from old Musicals. Ticking, Puppet fm Chitty Chitty Bang Bang DickVan Dike, Domino moves old cartoons like donald duck Scouts,& Popeye.Much of wht Sam does came later. If you had to pop your leg to finish a move that was a sign of weakness. Oakland used muscle control to pop. Sams version was watered down.

The Black Resurgents, and others have DANCE FOOTAGE ON YOUTUBE FROM 1971! and pictures that predate that. There is word of strutting, popping, robot, & boogaloo being done in 1965. There is footage that predates 1975! No disrespect to Sam. He is an O.G. to the fullest but I personally feel he did not INVENT popping or boogaloo. Latin Boogaloo originated in the City and was adopted by dancers in Oakland 1st. this is fact!

Sam Is 100% percent correct.....I remember them visiting us in SoCal..while we were seriously into locking and roboting in 1975.... a guy from Fresno came in 1976 with some very weird moves......and entered into the Hutch in LB dance contest.....he promised he would bring more cats from Fresno....or they would call it up north..to really enforce this new fresh style....I am 49...and I have been up and down this state ....this country in 1979.....I am a living witenss to boogaloo Sam as the king

Most cats back in the late 60's, early 70's could not afford video camera's. Hell barely could afford a pair of Chucks. I never saw Sam at any talent shows in the bay. If he was all that he would have come to the bay and tested his wares. Back then everydody in Oakland was trying to one up everyone, Guys were very creative. What I see today all over the world is a routed in the bedrock of what started in Oakland, it's a little more fluid, and has evolve in to many other variations and move.

If he would stop lying about him creating it then perhaps he would get respect. He took scarcrow, puppet, and copied a lot of his moves from styles that started in Oakland around 70,71. Boogalooing started around 65. He has been lying about that since his TV appearance on Soul Train. Creepin, Ticking, all that came from Oakland. If he had an ounce of integrity he would set things straight instead of besmirching the true creators.

For those saying you haven't seen any footage of these "so-called" Oakland poppers the footage is right at your finger tips. So what if Sam did or didn't create popping. Will that make you stop popping? I say dig and dig some more, the more you know about the dance the more you grow with in it. So YES look up these Oakland poppers and don't be heart broken when you find out some info just be enlightened. Chris columbus didn't discover america but you still go shopping with a day off.
