This is pt. 1 of 3 videos of me playing through a 1979 Fender Vibrolux Reverb plugged into a 5 amp Variac & a 1996 Fender Hot Rod Blues DeVille. I'm playing a 1996 Mexi Strat with Fender Vintage Noiseless single coil pick ups. The pedalboard is a Furman SPB-8. The pedals are a BOSS TU-2 tuner, vintage MXR noise gate/line driver, Dunlop Jimi Hendrix wah, BOSS CS-3 comp, vintage Ibanez GE-9 EQ, Fulltone FB-2, Fulltone Octafuzz, Fulltone Deja-Vibe, Line 6 DL-4. In this video I'm going though all the gear I used in the 3 videos.

  • It's not a Hot Rod Blues Deville...there's no such thing. It's either a Hot Rod Deville or a Blues Deville. In this case...it's clearly a Hot Rod. And obviously the Vibrolux is going to be better....there's a distinct difference in price. I think the Hot Rods a great gigging/touring/trashing amp...very tough and cleans give you a good base to work from but obviously the vibrolux beats it in every regard. Aside from headroom.

  • You play 11's? Cool, I play 12's!!! Standard tuning!!!

  • I'm just glad the toaster and the coffee maker didn't suck all the power from the amps so that we could get a good demo.

  • Hey great demo. On fenders site it says you also use the custom vibrolux. Do you variac that amp as well? I am thinking of using the variac while jumping the channels on mine.

  • Dude, did you say you're running your amp at 65 volts? You're going to fucking strip your cathodes. 90 should be the lowest, 130 the highest. By the way, a variac isn't so much for volume. It's for changing the plate voltage of the tubes to emphasize different order harmonics. You're confusing it with an attentuator.

  • Great video leroy! I own a 70's Vibrolux as well and I agree they're great amps. It's one of my fav's and always sounds great no matter what you plug into it.

  • This dude looks like one of the Meat Puppets!

  • Love ya Leroy!
