  • This version is wonderful but it is also done by Judy Henske (I think before this version). Judy also does a great version.

  • Billy Edd Wheeler wrote this song, and a couple of other really good ones, had to look it up, thanks.

  • yep, she's awesome.

  • Both ladies were very good but Marty Balin was always the soul of the Airplane to me.

One of the most underrated composers and singers of the era. . .

  • I think Marty certainly liked her much better than Grace. Grace and Signe both rock though.

  • For decades ,to my shame , passed on the original incarnation of the Airplane.Hat's off to Signe-you are the embodiment of the promise that time held

  • Marty thought nobody could replace Signe, but, he did find out what talent Grace had, too.

  • I thin kJack Cassady was the greatest bassist ever, except maybe John Entwistle.

  • @EdgeCrush1075 Saw her with Casady, Kantner, and Papa John in 93.."Acoustic Jefferson Starship" I think Tim Gormna was supposed to be there as well but did not show up.

  • @JonathanDaddy Your comments are spot-on:). I find Signe's voice brighter than Grace's, which had a darker timbre. But you're right -- it might be a paradox, but Signe's bright voice was a little deeper than Grace's dark alto.

At any rate, comparing and contrasting these two fine singers is a lotta fun -- I love 'em both:) -- Best and rock on, Steve

  • wow, still pretty..

  • The Airplane recorded its first album with Signe, and her powerful vocals resound throughout "The Jefferson Airplane Takes Off." Apparently Signe's then-husband had some disagreements with the Airplane; and she also wanted to spend more time with her newborn baby. So she left the band. Meanwhile, Grace Slick was willing to drop The Great Society and join the Airplane; and she did so:).

  • Signe did this song during a brief reunion tour (part JA - Kantner, Balin, maybe Cassidy) in mid 90s. It was incredible; she still had a wonderful, creative, bluesy strong voice.
