Kimberly Dozier, a veteran Middle East journalist who was critically wounded in a Baghdad bomb blast, talks about the difficulties of reporting from Iraq. For example, U.S. news headlines are about Britney Spears, and audiences interpret stories in partisan terms--positive ones as pro-McCain and negative ones as pro pulling out.
This is an excerpt from a Carnegie Council talk on May 12, 2008. For the full video, audio, and transcript, go to http://www.carnegiecouncil.org

  • I think Kimberly Dozier thought she was doing a service to vets by going on 60 minutes and telling people with PTSD to basically get over t by talking to someone. What she actually did was make vets suffering from PTSD look like wimps. She implied (even if she didn't mean to) that vets need to toughen up and their PTSD will go away.

    Thanks for nothing Kim.
