But let's also remember that a lot of viewers (especially younger ones) don't know much about the band either. Regardless of whether or not Couric knows anything about The Dan, the producers would tell her to play dumb and ask open questions anyways.

I'm 17 and am a huge fan, but only because of my parents.

The only thing that would have made this a trifle better would be the legendary Michael McDonald hustling and bustling through the New York City traffic getting there in the nick of time to bust out his singing parts in the original studio version.

As a kid learning guitar I thought most jazz chords were only for playing jazz, but after playing Steely Dan's greatest hits record ( best sounding vinyl btw!) I realized anything goes! What's funny is the 1950's is often regarded as the beginning of rock and roll based music, but a good musician eventually learns that the music of the 20's-40's is where all of the flavor is at. The lucky ones get bitten by the best pop music ever recorded, from about 1927 to 1937...pre-big band, with a banjo:)

Getting any of those players you named would be great. I'll add Elliott Randall and Denny Dias to the wishlist. Although as a huge Randall fan I know he's played with em in London where he lives. I wanna like Herrington but his playing is so generic and bland. The type of player you wouldn't recognize if you heard them on the radio.

Yeah it's impossible to improve on Jay Graydons solo on the record version of this. Herrington does the best he can trying to hang with the stellar guitarists (larry carlton - jay graydon - dean parks - skunk baxter) that the Dan have used. Too bad they have never been able to get Larry to go on the road with them. I think now they are just being loyal to Herrington for hanging with them for so long.

I wonder if Katie realizes that she is introducing a steel dildo.
