Interview kindly translated by Temmink6:
Title: "Surviving the first storm"
Alex: It's actually a kind of renewed energy you get, from one side all the spontaneity, and at the other side all the knowledge and experience you acquired in the past years. This combination is very interesting.
Noémie: It feels familiar because the two musicians have a been in the business for quite a while, that is the best backup you can have.
We have done a lot of promotions, and because that's new for me it's kinda stressing. But it seems I can hide that very well which is an advantage for me. 'Cause actually I am bloody nervous, my stomach has been upside down for days now.
Alex: That was something we were worried about, she had to get through the first media storm with loads of cameras pointed to her. Maybe with people who would want to take her down. You have to have a lot of self-esteem to handle that. When she came in we realized it was as if she didn't care, it was like she didn't have any nerves at all. That's when we realized that she was a person who could handle this.
[Piano Play]
Noémie: I'd always joked to my friends when we were on our way to Werchter: "One day I will perform there too!". And now there's a chance that this will happen! You don't expect such a thing!
[Noémie Singing]
Raymond: She has the kind of voice that "grabs" you, it's very emotional. That was what we were looking for.
[Noémie singing]
Alex: There is one song on our album, "Danger Zone", that nobody was able to sing right, even Geike had hard times on this. When she sang it, it was never as it was meant to. One day Noémie came in and asked: "Shall I try this song?" and I was like: "Yeah right, try it...". So we start playing and within 2 takes it was recorded. That was so cool!
[Noémie singing]
Interviewer: Did you have to wait in tension for a long time?
Noemie: Oh yes, absolutely. We had a few contacts and each time those conversations hit a dead end, that is quite frustrating
Alex: To be honest we tested her patience a bit to make sure she could handle the tension.
Noémie: When they finally called me and told me I was through, I was like: "Man, was it necessary to make me wait this long?"
Alex: When I called her she called me "dickhead" and I thought: "Ok, well done..."
[Noémie Singing]
Noémie: I wasn't a superfan. It was when I was listening to the music the learn the lyrics I realized I knew the songs, because I always liked them but I didn't know they were by Hooverphonic.
Alex: That was the weird thing. People always ask me why we didn't search for a Hooverphonic fan. But we were looking for a fantastic, capable good singer, not someone who's good at imitating songs.
Interviewer: How hard is it to replace Geike?
Noemie: It's absolutely "big shoes to fill". But I think I differ a lot from Geike and that makes it easier. People ask me if it is hard that we are often compared to each other. I think it is actually very interesting to see on what level people compare us.
Alex: If you look at the reactions and criticism almost everybody is very positive about her. I never even dared to dream she would be so immediatly accepted like this.
[Noémie Singing]
Noémie: It is still all just a little of a blur for me. But I think I am ready for it. I think it's cool.

I think the new singer blows Geike away in every sense vocally. She doesn't have a funky accent but I still feel Liesje Sadonius's voice was the perfect fit for this band. The first album is a masterpiece and doesn't have that james bond sillyness to it. I do however like blue wonder power milk with geike cause it still has the first album feel which I missed on later albums. Good luck to the new chick, hope she does well.

@Darkphizer You are right, i've made a mistake here.
Problem is that the Belgian accent is quite different than dutch, so I heard it wrong...
I will ask HooverphonicAddicted to correct this.

@Darkphizer Ok, i follow now, I hadn't read those subtitles, sorry :S
ripper2563 8 months ago
@ripper2563 I know she says that, but that's not what it says in your subtitles in the description. So that's why I commented. This is what it says in your subtitles:
Noémie: It feels like it was always like this, I've been in the music business for quite a while, that is the best backup you can have.
That's not correctly translated ;) Follow me now?
Darkphizer 8 months ago
@Darkphizer I can't really follow, what you mean with correction?
She does not say SHE has a musical background, she says: "it feels familiar because the two musicians have a been in the business for quite a while ..."
ripper2563 8 months ago
The first line where Noémie starts to talk, she actually says:
"It feels like it was always like this, they have been in the music business for quite a while, that is the best backup you can have. That feels really good."
She doesn't really have a musical background, so i thought this was a really important correction.
