Sounds like a line straight out of the Obamacare mantra - thanks but no thanks.

why do you regret it > ?

@turbotrauma It went well. I rarely get any of the numbness I had before. I wished I would have done it sooner.

The CTS symptoms are gone, but now my hand has this weird 'ambient' numbness to it and these weird nerve issues when I tough certain parts of my hand. I sorely missing have a palm! It's been 10 months and my hand still hurts, it puffed out a bit like a balloon with the ligament gone. Doc never told me that would happen. I wish I could find a way to reverse the surgery. In France I hear they have docs who can give you an implant to replace the TCL. I'm happy that I only had the left hand done!

@turbotrauma @turbotrauma In endoscopic carpal tunnel release the palmar fascia remains untouched, intact. The Transverse carpal Ligament reheals in all CTR. The amount that the ligament springs open is only a few millimeters. The one study of an implant compared OPEN release to a limited procedure with implant. The study is biased by reporting results in grip at one month after surgery.
The ligament may have focal limited use but not for what you describe

However I still personally think that initial splinting after ECTR is worthwhile.
I do not know of a case of bowstringing in a routine ECTR whether this changes by not surgically cutting of the palmar fascia and doing "less" to the associated adjacent anatomy that you prevent bowstringing.
By the way.. if you have seen this video and are interested further you can hear a podcast about endoscopic carpal tunnel release on itunes by searching for hand sugery podcast

Bowstringing is a complex issue that does not typically happen in carpal tunnel release but certainly has been described in association with an open standard CTR. I personally have not seen in but that may be due to the way the palmar fascia is handled even wiht open release practicing a "less is more" type of surgery. In times of the dinosaurs and pangea when routine flexor tenolysis was done during ctr bowstringing may have been more of an issue.
