  • Whangari Maathai was a famous Kenyan ecologist who spent her whole life helping excluded people, especially women, and fighting against injustice. She campaigned for farmers rights and also, she was very interested in environment conservation. Wangari Maathai always wanted peace in her country. Seven years ago, she was awared the Nobel Peace Prize, Recently, she has died. She was affected by cancer, at the age of 71. Her charity will never fall into oblivion amongst Kenyans

  • I am currently writing my final essay of the semester on Dr. Maathai, and just what little research I have done so far has been very inspiring. She is a great woman and I will try to do my very best in life as she would expect from any person.

  • She is an inspiration for Indians like me too. An irreparable loss has made through her death. Rest in Peace Wangari Maathai.

  • Rest in peace Prof. Wangari Maathai.

  • Wangari Maathai is a true legend. An inspiration to the whole of Africa and beyond, iam truelly touched to see the courage she had by standing to what she beleived in and i just wish we could follow on to her footsteps and make the world a better place.R.I.P sister, mother, grandmother and a friend you really are my HERO!

  • Wow, she doesn't even remotely look like 71.

  • I just heard now of Wangari Maathai's passing. A sad time indeed but what a legacy she has left which will live on. The world needs more people like her and beautiful Kenya is a better place for the gift she gave.

  • I was honored to meet Wangari Maathai in 2006, take a photo with her during her trip to Boston and learn more about her important work. She was a visionary champion who fought an uphill battle against powerful political forces who opposed her leadership. She won on many fronts and proved that women can lead in the fight to save the environment. May God bless her soul, and may she rest in peace.

  • Au323 you are a racist fool. This woman is a world environmentalist. What she was you will never been. For you to insult her on her death is beyond humanity.Go dig a hole and jump in it.You don't deserve to leave above ground.
