COURSE CLOSED

Proust and His World

A unique opportunity to explore the writings of one of the world's most enduring creative spirits, as well as to learn about the politics, art, and music from one of history's most turbulent and creative eras. The class will be geared to many levels of interest. Students who wish to read the entire "In Search of Lost Time," in English or French, will be encouraged to do so. Others will be provided with excerpts for study.

Larry Bensky was a nationally-recognized radio journalist and talk show host for KPFA/Pacifica Radio from 1969-2008. He has taught at Stanford, Cal State University East Bay, and Berkeley City College since 1988. His interest in Proust dates to his days a Paris editor of the literary magazine, "The Paris Review" (1964-66) and to his work at the New York Times Book Review, where he was editor (1967-68) before moving to California as managing editor of Ramparts Magazine. He is currently developing a website and radio series, "Radio Proust," under the sponsorship of Bard College (www.radioproust.org).
