  • So pertinent for today.

We lit the candles and raised them high in the '70's, but corporate greed and human complacence has been smothering many of them for the past 40 yrs. They and snuffed a lot of candles but the thing about a candle is it can always be re-lit. It's past time for all the world's peoples to re-light and raise them high again.

  • Had several of her albums back in the 70's Live at Carnegie hall stone ground words what a talent what a voice loved her then and still do. Long live old hippies!! thanks for posting this I had forgotten how much I loved it.

  • what a song,what a voice,it is truly amazing!!!

  • @aspenriverrun good to know there's others like me out there...xxx

  • All I know is when I would hear this song on the radio back in 70, my ears would perk up and I would have to listen; much like listening to "Strawberry Fields Forever" or "Hey Jude". The best rock anthems were written in the late 60s, and this is one of them. It would be interesting to hear this song all the way to the end without the fade to see what vocal expressions we missed from Melanie and the Edwin Hawkin Singers. BTW, "Oh Happy Day" was another great rock anthem written back then.

  • Is there a small "intro" woo woo singing ect. before the actual song? Is this original? They don't play this on a lot of CD's. I have to admit it gives it a good touch.

  • I can't imagine a song today expressing this kind of beautiful optimism. Thanks for the reminder. This is one of those sha la la la's Karen Carpenter was singing about in Yesterday Once More.

  • @aspenriverrun Right on....xo

  • @mainemember

Doves the birds of love and gentleness.

  • Now that I have learned them, I think that some of these lyrics are not so bright. But guess what? It doesn't make any difference, because the music is beautiful, in a haunting sort of way, and her singing is inspirational. Thumbs up. and thanks for posting it, Bea8beA.

  • @mainemember thats white birds the dove of peace the white bird
