@alexphillips21 who fought their way to byzantium? the varyags, and the varangian guard were viking from all over scandinavia, iceland, england (the ones that settled there), and the kievan rus' (which were vikings from sweden that settled near lake ladoga and founded holmgard, now known as novgorod) who fought in the byzantine greek army as elite shock troops, and the varangian guard was the byzantine emperor's personal bodyguard, like the praetorian guard in the roman empire.
