This tale reminds me of something Aristotle said that the virtues man is always vitreous no matter what happens to him or in what situation he is cast in; and so it is here: A businessman forms an international committee to save a foreign city from being sacked; in order to save countless lives. But the hero is not rewarded for his kindness and first annoyed by his government and than persecuted by foreign foes; and yet his deed will be remembered and is a fine example for human humanness.

any human on the earth would suooprt a movie that reflects the facts of the great people who sacrificed to save lives of others. Communist or Nazi, doesn't matter, as long as they are good people.
