Using the Prestige New Jazz recording session as a backdrop -This sequence of Black and White photographs traces the making of the original 'demonstration Recording'- portraying Ken Makanda McIntyre and the original musicians that recorded in Boston in 1958/9 - including jam session photo's taken at Wally's Paradise Club in Boston, and photo's taken at the Five Spot in NYC - performing the music from the Stone Blues recording. Demo musicians were the same with the exception of Larry "Lanky"Richardson on Bass and Bill "Baggy" Grant on Drums. Except for the pianist Dizzy Sal,who was from Goa, India, all the musicians were from Boston (Roxbury). The Prestige date was recorded on May 31,1960 at Rudy Van Gelders Studio in Engelwood Cliffs, NJ.

  • Thank you soo much for posting this!! In 1994 I played with

Bill Baggy Grant in Boston for about a year. I could most definitely

hear all that history in his soul. Much love!
