FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The foursome of Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, David Ortiz and Carl Crawford are expected to form the foundation of the revamped Boston Red Sox 2011 lineup.
On Thursday, reporting day for the team and a day before the club's first full-squad workout, all four were in the same batting group for the first time this spring.
Pedroia led the group, followed by Youkilis, Ortiz and Crawford. Pedroia is likely to remain as the club's No. 2 hitter with Carl Crawford or Kevin Youkilis likely to hit third, followed by Adrian Gonzalez, J.D Drew and Ortiz.
The only player in attendance but not allowed to take part in BP was Gonzalez, as he is having his surgically repaired right shoulder examined in the next week by Dr. David Altchek in Port St. Lucie, where he is the team doctor for the New York Mets.
If he is cleared, he could begin hitting with the team by the end of February.
