Okay, I am a bit addicted to Chumbawamba's 'The Boy Bands Have Won'. This is my last cover off that album, at least until I've written a few more songs of my own. I like it especially because of it's final lyric, something which fits well with the Amnesty ethic, I think.
I also like its celebration of human beings as very much part of the natural world. The Album blurb for the song reads:
"The evolution of the Peppered Moth over the last 200 years has been studied in detail. Originally the vast majority of peppered moths were light-coloured, which effectively camouflaged them against the light-coloured trees and lichens which they rested on. However, due to widespread pollution during the industrial revolution in England, many of the lichens died out, and the trees which Peppered Moths rested on became blackened by soot, causing most of the light-coloured moths to die off due to predation. At the same time the dark-coloured, or melanic, moths flourished because of their ability to hide on the darkened trees. Since then, with improved environmental standards, light-coloured Peppered Moths have again become common, and as a result of the relatively simple and easy-to-understand circumstances of the adaptation, the Peppered Moth has become a common example used in explaining or demonstrating Natural Selection."
Crackin cover.
