50 years since the battle of Algiers began, More4 News (C4, UK), speaks to one of the commanders of the Autonomous Zone (Algiers, Algeria) as the film "The Battle of Algiers" is to be re-released this week.

The parallels between the Algerian war of independence (1954-62) and the ongoing war in Iraq have once more been drawn as the US Administration seeks a way out of the quagmire in Iraq.

Officials at the FBI, the CIA and the Pentagon have screened the Algerian experience and approached Yacef Saadi, the commander, for ideas only to be told: "the day you put your feet in Iraq is the day you will lose the war".

  • The Battle of Algiers is the greatest film of all time. Not the greatest war film, just the greatest film, of any genre. It was only on re-release for one week in Dublin, and only a handfull of people saw it, but this film should be shown constantly in cinema's throughout the world. If it is possible, i think that this film outdoes "dr. strangelove" as becoming more relevant with each passing day.

  • Thanks for commenting. I have the entire film, but because of possible copyright infringement I cannot upload the whole of it. I can upload small chunks if you let me know the bits you're interested in.

  • @naizret what you stupid faggot ?? are you calling us terrorists because we got rid of the ugly french colonizers ?? and what that`s got to do with iraq? .. who is talking about your army biaaatchhh .. you are just a terrible person

  • looking back to this war gives us less and very less hope . to think how people fought together for the same ideal then went apart soon after with selfishness and egoism . now we consider every new fight ending to the same result. some will die and later on they will be forgotten and other will run onto terany .it's very hard to trust humans as every one of us is looking for himself . life is a jungle , no more than a jungle . it's made for bad people , i feel sorry for good ones they will s

  • According the fact,

Nazis created and financed by the French, British , German and US zionist thieves in order to destroy socialist movement in Europe thats supported especially by the Jewish workingclass who were against the zionist thieves.

  • @neroangola YES IT MAY WELL BE THE GREATEST FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN--IT IS ON DVD EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH IT

  • FLN sucks. They first failed to industrialize Algeria, and then they cannot even win a election in 1991. Fine...then FLN cannot even defeat FIS without their French colonial master? WTF?

I respect the martyrs of independence but those survivors from the FLN suck, like that guy in the video (why don't he just speak Arabic instead of French, his enemy's tongue?). End of the story.

  • "Yesterdays terrorists is tomorrows statesman"

Shame on Channel 4, I used to think they were seekers of truth.

  • @dinatah1 Many thanks Italian Brother !!

  • You haven't won anything. You are occupying the country. Hopefully one day it will rise up and kick you out.

  • The joke is on this Algerian terrorist: We won in Iraq. Vive General Petraeus!

  • The Best! But the French were worse than Pontecorvo portrays them--he if he really shwed what they did no one would believe it
