St. Michael's Hospital was awarded the 3M Health Care Quality Team Award for programs and processes in an acute hospital environment presented at the Canadian College of Health Leaders national conference in June.
The award acknowledges St. Michael's success in lowering emergency room wait times, improving capacity and flow throughout the Hospital.
The Award is very competitive. St. Michael's was selected from a group of 20 acute care facilities across Canada and presented with the honour before a crowd of 500 attendees. It encourages and recognizes healthcare teams that are using quality processes to create measurable benefits within their programs and services. It signifies an organization's success in quality, innovation and teamwork. The award was first given by the College in 1994.
"This award is an endorsement of our efforts to build capacity and move patients thorough our organization in better and more timely ways," said president and CEO Bob Howard. "The key to our success has been rooted in our corporate principle of building quality improvement in all we do and the six dimensions of quality: safety, outcomes, access, patient experience, equity and efficiency (SOAPEE)."
Submissions are scored against a set of criteria. Once the top contenders are determined, the selection committee determines the winner. St. Michael's scored the highest.
