how did hipsters "taint the joys of riding a bike"? are there all sorts of bespectacled, skinny jean wearing clove smokers littering your bike path? that sounds like a problem for your local public works department. other than that, i wasn't aware that riding a bicycle was such an exclusive activity. were you also into fire and hand tools before they were cool?
